TOUR MAP

TOUR EXCURSIONS

Viking World Museum
Guided Visit

Ideally located near Keflavik airport, visit the fascinating Viking World Museum, where engaging exhibitions shed light on the history of the Norse Vikings in the area. It also houses Viking ship, the Icelander, built in 1996 as an exact replica of the famous Gokstad ship - a remarkable archaeological find of an almost completely intact Viking ship, excavated in Norway in 1882. Your visit also includes a delicious breakfast buffet in the café, including some typical Icelandic food products.

Reykjanes Peninsula
Guided Tour

Join a knowledgeable guide to explore the rugged beauty of the Reykjanes Peninsula, an area marked by a lack of vegetation and bubbling hot springs, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Highlights on the tour include Kleifarvatn Lake, located on the fissure zone of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. During a large earthquake in 2000, the lake began to diminish and about 20 percent of its surface disappeared, though it has recently regained its previous surface level. You can also visit the Krysuvikurbjarg Cliff, known for its active birdlife and spellbinding natural beauty. Marking the boundary of the Eurasian and North American continental tectonic plates, the Alftagja rift valley near Grindavik is an area rich for its folk heritage. It is believed that the many rocks and cliffs here were once the homes of elves and giants.

Thorsmork Glacial Valley by Super Jeep
Guided Excursion

Board a Super Jeep for a day exploring the striking Thorsmork Valley, named after the Norse god Thor and characterised by rugged mountains, striking glaciers and winding rivers. Thanks to the expertise of your skilled driver and guide, you can thrillingly traverse the glacial waters in your vehicle, before reaching the Thorsmork area, home to more than 170 species of plants, moss and lichen. Stop to marvel at your stunning surroundings, as well as enjoying a barbecue lunch.

South Shore and Ice Walk
Guided Tour

The South Shore of Iceland is well known for its breathtaking beauty, wondrous waterfalls and endless beaches, as well as its striking glaciers. Join a private guide as you visit the impressive Seljalandsfoss waterfall, followed by the unique Reynisdrangar basalt sea stacks in the North-Atlantic Ocean. Legend has it that the stacks originated when two trolls dragged a three-master ship to land unsuccessfully and, when daylight broke, they became needles of rock. As well as a visit to one of the country’s most beautiful waterfalls Skogarfoss, your tour includes an incredible opportunity to hike on the Solheimajokull glacier. Nothing quite compares to the beauty and excitement of walking across this mighty ice formation.

Icelandic Horse Riding
Guided Excursion

Pay a visit to a local horse farm, meeting friendly farmers who will introduce you to their stunning Icelandic horses, a 'five-gaited' breed known for its sure-footedness and ability to cross rough terrain. Learn more about the breed and how they are trained, before heading out for a gentle, scenic stroll on horseback. Afterwards, the farmers welcome you to enjoy delicious Icelandic food made by the family, while sharing stories about life in the area.

Thrihnukagigur Volcano
Guided Excursion

A fairly strenuous but short hike – of around 50 minutes - takes you from Blaffoll mountain to the famed Thrihnukagigur volcano, directly translating to the ‘Three Peaks Crater’. Following a thorough safety briefing, you can enter the crater of the dormant volcano (that last erupted over 4,000 years ago) by open elevator, always accompanied by expert guides. Prepare to be wowed by the beautiful colourings of the crater, as well as its sheer size – the width of around three full-sized basketball courts and the height of New York’s Statue of Liberty!

Thingvellir National Park, Strokkur Geyser and Gulfoss Waterfall
Guided Tour

Head by road to Thingvellir, the first national park in Iceland and one of the few places where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge comes to the surface, making visible the boundary between tectonic plates. As well as its fascinating geological value, the area was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status due to it housing the Althing, the national parliament of Iceland and the oldest surviving parliament in the world. After enjoying lunch at the Fridheimar greenhouses - where geothermal energy is used to grow tasty produce – continue to the Strokkur geyser, watching as it erupts high into the air. Your tour ends with a visit to the Gullfoss waterfall, a stunning sight to behold, fed by the river of the second largest glacier in Europe, Langjokull.

Explore Ilulissat
Guided Walking Tour

Join a private guide for a stroll around Ilulissat, a coastal town in western Greenland, known for its UNESCO World Heritage Icefjord, giant icebergs and traditional Inuit culture. Your tour includes a trip to a museum, where you can learn more about the area’s history, heritage and natural delights.

Ilulissat Fjord Midnight Cruise
Evening Excursion

Ilulissat is renowned for its striking UNESCO-listed Icefjord, which you can get closer to on an enchanting “midnight” boat cruise in the late evening. Prepare to be blown away by the sheer beauty of your surroundings, watching as the icebergs change from white and blue to shades of orange and red when struck by the midnight sun.

Eqi Glacier and Inuit Settlement
Guided Tour

Measuring approximately five kilometres in width, Eqi is the most calving glacier in the northern hemisphere, the process by which large pieces of ice frequently break off the main ice mass. Pass by this natural spectacle by boat, perhaps even spotting chunks of ice splash dramatically into the water below. On your way back to Ilulissat, visit a small Inuit settlement, home to only around 40 people. Enjoy a private walking tour of the remote village, learning more about its dependence on fishing and hunting – before enjoying a local dinner here.

Icefjords and Eskimo Ruins at Sermermiut
Guided Excursion

Transfer to the old heliport and begin your privately guided hike to the shores of the Icefjord and the Eskimo Ruins at Sermermiut. The pre-colonial history of Sermermiut was pieced together by a series of archaeological excavations during the 20th century, with findings suggesting that it dated back to around 600–200 BC, before being abandoned in 1850. After a look around and a warming refreshment, visit a local hunter and his dog team, learning more about dog sledding in the area and perhaps helping to feed these incredible animals.

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL

Depending on your preferences, these are year-round destinations. The light summer months offer plenty of outdoor adventures and brilliant whale watching in Iceland. Winter boasts the most impressive ice displays and northern light sightings.
